your personal alter

If you could create a ceremony for yourself.

Your essence and all the things that create your human experience,

let’s just call it life,

what would your alter be?

When I ask my self this, the Where, is the first things that comes to mind.

I visualize a babbling brook in the middle of a Pacific Northwest Rainforest.

Would it be your home, or a place in nature, another country even?

What would adorn your sacred alter, this representation of all you are and will be?

Would there be flowers? What kind? Can you smell them? Will there be photos, nature objects or your favorite pair of shoes? There are no rules, this is your sacred life alter.

Who would be present? Your ancestors, spirit guides, animal friends, or maybe just you… your best lover?

When would this life ceremony take place? What’s your favorite time of year? What time of day? Would the moon be blessing you or would the stars be the brightest thing is the sky?

Why? Would would the mood be? Would it be to uplift and support your spirit during a time or mourning or grief or to celebrate an accomplishment or self care and recognition? Or just because you are alive?

Be as wild or as simple as you would like.

Maybe your alter is the setting sun on the beach.

I love this meditation/visualization because it brings into view all of the romantic, beautiful things about our life that already exist. It helps us get cozy in the present moment which is where our dreams are born.

There is no need to wait to celebrate your life.

The one you have is perfect, even if it’s messy and doesn’t feel great.

The reason I know it’s perfect, is because you are here, alive and able to feel all of the feels.

In this moment, you are capable of thinking thoughts that can determine how you feel and act, creating the reality that is your life.

I would love to see your alter come to life!

If you would like to work on this meditation with me in person or over the phone, message me and we will set up a time for a mini session.

Enjoy the ceremony that is your life.

Beginners Mind

Before you knew about a thing,

there was no judgement.

Especially in today’s western world,

we seem to be growing up quicker.

There is almost no choice.

Because of the continuous exposure to false pleasures, and pressures to be happy,

we want all of the things at a younger and younger age.

Growing up fast doesn’t mean you are better equipped emotionally,

in fact, I think the imbalance between societal maturity

and emotional intelligence is extremely harmful.

Beginners mind is a concept I have studied over the years through my yoga practice

and other eastern arts and philosophies.

It is an idea that we can shift our perspective

back to before the mind was jaded and judging,

look at the same situation, person or event

as though we are experiancing it for the first time.

This isn’t easy, but a great practice in mindful thinking.

Remembering we are in control of our thoughts in any moment.

The fact is, that each moment IS a new experience.

We prejudge so much of our life,

that we don’t allow ourselves the moments of wonder and awe we deserve,

and frankly, we are stripping that sweetness from the lives of our children.

I have a new motto in my house when things start to get a little crazy.

Stop, take a breath and smile.

It snaps you out of your normal ways of reacting

and allows for new, softer ways of responding to life.

It’s really a breath of fresh air to allow a sense of innocents back into your life.

This technique is very usefuly for our creative endeavors.

When practicing yoga, painting, playing music or even a walk you have taken 100 times,

can you step into the seat of curiosity?

What will be different this time if you are not just going through the motions?

You will be surprised about what shows up and it also takes pressure off of perfection.

Pick one thing you do regularly and for a month,

approach it with eyes wide open.

finding vibhuti

2018 was my year of saying yes,

to all of the things I usually say no to.

You can’t transform if you don’t change.

It’s not possible.

I am a hands on learner.

I can read books and watch videos,

but the essence for me is in the pulse of life connection.

It’s also hard for me to connect to a community virtually,

but I have. And that feels good too.

Every time I close my eyes for conscious breathing,

I realize I have all of the answers I will ever need

and also, that I know absolutely nothing at all.

I was invited to attend a sisters circle last night.

When I heard about it, I was intrigued.

I have very little experience as an adult in a group of women

on an intimate level.

It is something I am actively seeking.

But of course,

when the time came,

I could have easily stayed home.

I didn’t know what to expect really.

I may know one or two of the sisters, but not close.

But, this is my year and I have to put in the work

when the offer is so blatently presented.

I bought some dark chocolate as an offering.

Brushed my hair.

Had an early dinner with my sweetheart and off I went.

I am not a shy person,

in fact, I have no problem meeting most people.

I am however an introvert and never get lonely,

which is why staying home is always the easier option.

The details of the entire event are not what is important here.

However, I was gifted a very special sacred powder manifest from the hands of a revered Guru.

Blessed by enchanting Priestess named Amethyst.

I felt the subtle layer of my body where I hold my deepest truths, soften.

I cried.

I signed so deeply that I could see the basket of arms for the game of trust I have been longing to experience with a group of women open eternally for me.

Needless to say, it was life altering.

I didn’t know anyone.

But I knew every single one of them by heart.

If I didn’t say yes,

I would have been in my pajamas

listening to a podcast

working on my watercolors.

All great things.

But things I have done before and will have the change to again.

If you want your life to look different,

you have to step outside of your comfort zone.

You have to say yes to the things that knock on your door.

Put your coat on

and go for a walk.

It always turns out way better than you could have possibly imagined.

Next time you wish your life was different,

ask your self when was the last time you changed?

Why I care.

I believe we are all here with the limitless possibility to create meaning in our lives.

This doesn’t alway mean happiness.

I do think joy however, is a byproduct of a life worth living.

This is different for everyone.

Living an ordinary life full of routine can be mundane or full of magic.

The choice is up to you.

If you approach your routine from the same perspective everyday, it’s going to be the same.

When you open up to the endless possibilities of how you can experience your world,

creativity takes over.

This is the spark of divinity that runs through each of us.

If you don’t stop to look around once and a while, you will miss all of it.

The peace that comes from allowing life to happen and making space for creativity

changes the world.

The only way to truly make real lasting positive change,

is by being a example of what’s possible.

I want nothing more than to see your light shining as bright as it can.

Creativity is your birthright.

I want to live in a world where more peace exists.

This starts with each one of us.

It’s dedicated hardworking.

But nothing worth doing is easy.

You don’t have to navigate the waters alone.

I am here to help you on this path.

There is room in this for you.

Breathe, Relax, Feel, Watch, Allow

The amazing part of being human is our ability to step into the seat of witness consciousness. It is not something we are taught in school, or even by our parents, at least not in those terms. The opportunity to pay attention to our wandering thoughts and emotions that often times seem to take over, is one we fall short of taking advantage of most of the time. In my opinion, there are no emotions we have that are bad, they are part of our experience because they inform us about what is going on with how we are relating to our circumstances and our higher self. They should not be ignored, dismissed or put down. It is hard not to take our adverse emotions personally, but don’t! Your thoughts and emotions are tools, they are not the essence of your being. When we practice observation without judgment, we strengthen the muscle of pause.

The cornerstone of the Kriplau tradition of yoga I studied, is self-study. This technique I am about to teach you, is an amazing tool, meditation or mantra. Use it how ever you like to. In my “Dig Deeper” video, I guide you through the process as a meditation with additional cues.

Prompt: Next time you are experiencing anxiety, depressive feelings, self doubt, limiting beliefs or another emotion or thought that you would like to shift into something different, try this:

Find a quiet comfortable seat.

Take serval long, slow, deep breaths.

Repeat the five main key words to your self and take several breaths between each one.

It’s not enough to just to say the words but you need to shift your perspective to fully engage in each one. This will change your life if you use it.

BREATHE: notice the sensations of your breath, the rise and fall of the belly and chest, the stretching of the body. from the inside out.

RELAX: Lean back into the space behind you a little, soften any parts of the body you are holding, let go of tension.

FEEL: Notice sensations in the body and your senses.

WATCH: Tune into the witness consciousness. The ability to see your self just as you are right now.

ALLOW: As you deepen into that witness perspective, simply let your thoughts and emotions be what they are. They wash over you just like a wave and before you know it, it shifts.

When you first start this practice, go through the process several times. I suggest doing it as a morning meditation, that way it will become familiar to you when you need to call on it in a time where stuff maybe coming up, you will be able to access it more easily.

I am so excited to offer this tool to you. It is such a powerful way to take control of any situation you find your self in. Problems are only problems if we believe they are. With attention and action you can change the way you feel and think by paying attention. Keep up the good work and let me know if you would like to connect to gain some more insight and knowledge into this type of self inquiry. I would love to work with you.
